Κατά Λουκάν Ευαγγέλιον
Κατὰ δὲ τὸν ἕκτον μῆνα ἀπεστάλη ὁ ἄγγελος Γαβριὴλ ἀπὸ τὸν Θεὸν εἰς πόλιν τῆς Γαλιλαίας, ποὺ ὠνομάζετο Ναζαρέτ, πρὸς παρθένον,
ἡ ὁποία ἦτο μνηστευμένη μὲ ἄνδρα ὀνομαζόμενον Ἰωσὴφ ἀπὸ τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Δαυΐδ καὶ τὸ ὄνομα τῆς παρθένου ἦτο Μαριάμ.
Καὶ ὅταν παρουσιάσθηκε εἰς αὐτὴν ὁ ἄγγελος τῆς εἶπε, «Χαῖρε, κεχαριτωμένη, ὁ Κύριος εἶναι μαζί σου, εὐλογημένη εἶσαι σὺ μεταξὺ τῶν γυναικῶν».
Αὐτὴ δὲ μόλις τὸν εἶδε, ἐταράχθηκε μὲ τὰ λόγια αὐτὰ καὶ ἐσκέπτετο τί σημαίνει ὁ χαιρετισμὸς αὐτός.
Καὶ ὁ ἄγγελος τῆς εἶπε, «Μὴ φοβᾶσαι, Μαριάμ, διότι εὑρῆκες χάριν ἐκ μέρους τοῦ Θεοῦ.
Θὰ μείνῃς ἔγκυος καὶ θὰ γεννήσῃς υἱὸν καὶ θὰ τὸν ὀνομάσῃς Ἰησοῦν. Αὐτὸς θὰ εἶναι μέγας καὶ θὰ ὀνομασθῇ Υἱὸς τοῦ Ὑψίστου καὶ θὰ τοῦ δώσῃ ὁ Θεὸς τὸν θρόνον τοῦ Δαυΐδ τοῦ πατέρα του, καὶ θὰ βασιλεύσῃ εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Ἰακὼβ αἰωνίως καὶ ἡ βασιλεία του δὲν θὰ ἔχῃ τέλος».
Εἶπε δὲ ἡ Μαριὰμ πρὸς τὸν ἄγγελον, «Πῶς θὰ γίνῃ αὐτὸ, ἀφοῦ δὲν ἔχω ἄνδρα;».
Ὁ ἄγγελος ἀπεκρίθη, «Πνεῦμα Ἅγιον θὰ ἔλθῃ σ’ ἐσὲ καὶ ἡ δύναμις τοῦ Ὑψίστου θὰ σὲ σκιάσῃ· διὰ τοῦτο καὶ τὸ ἅγιον ποὺ θὰ γεννηθῇ θὰ ὀνομασθῇ Υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ.
Καὶ ἡ Ἐλισάβετ ἡ συγγενής σου, συνέλαβε καὶ αὐτὴ υἱὸν εἰς τὰ γεράματά της καὶ αὐτὴ ποὺ θεωρεῖται στεῖρα, εἶναι τώρα εἰς τὸν ἕκτον μῆνα της, διότι κανένα πρᾶγμα δὲν εἶναι ἀδύνατον εἰς τὸν Θεόν».
Εἶπε τότε ἡ Μαριάμ, «Ἰδοῦ ἡ δούλη τοῦ Κυρίου· ἂς μοῦ γίνῃ ὅπως εἶπες». Καὶ ἔφυγε ἀπ’ αὐτὴν ὁ ἄγγελος.
Πρωτευαγγέλιο Ιακώβου
Πήρε την στάμνα και πήγε να τη γεμίσει νερό. Και να μια φωνή της λέει «Χαίρε κεχαριτωμένη, ο Κύριος μετά Σου, ευλογημένη Συ εν γυναιξίν». Εκείνη έστρεψε το βλέμμα της δεξιά αριστερά, για να καταλάβει από που έρχεται αυτή η φωνή. Κατατρομαγμένη γύρισε σπίτι της, τακτοποίησε τη στάμνα, πήρε την πορφύρα, κάθισε στην καρέκλα της και έκλωθε. Και να άγγελος Κυρίου στάθηκε μπροστά της και της είπε: «Μη φοβάσαι Μαριάμ, βρέθηκε περίσσεια η χάρη του Θεού, που είναι Κύριος των πάντων, για σένα, γι’αυτό θα συλλάβεις από το λόγο του». Όταν το άκουσε αυτό αναρωτήθηκε: Θα συλλάβω εγώ από τον Κύριο, τον ζώντα Θεό, και θα γεννήσω οπως γεννά κάθε γυναίκα; Και ο άγγελος Κυρίου αποκρίθηκε: «Όχι έτσι Μαριάμ, γιατί δύναμη Κυρίου θα σε καλύψει. Γι’ αυτό και το άγιο παιδί θα ονομαστεί Υιός του Υψίστου και θα του δώσεις το όνομα Ιησούς, αυτός θα σώσει το λαό από τις αμαρτίες του. Και η Μαριάμ απάντησε: «Ιδού η δούλη Κυρίου ενώπιον Του, ας γίνει αυτό που λες». Αφού τελείωσε την πορφύρα και το κόκκινο, τα πήγε στον ιερέα, αυτός την ευλόγησε και είπε: «Μαριάμ, ο Κύριος δόξασε το όνομά σου, θα είσαι ευλογημένη σε όλες τις γενιές της γης».

In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin who was betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And when the angel came to her, he said, “Rejoice, you who have been shown favor; the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women.”
But when she saw him, she was troubled at these words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.
And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
You will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father; and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end.”
Then Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I do not have a husband?”
The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the holy one who will be born will be called the Son of God.
And behold, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age, and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month; for nothing is impossible with God.”
Then Mary said, “Behold, the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
Protoevangelium of James
She took the jar and went to fill it with water. And behold, a voice said to her: “Rejoice, you who have been shown favor; the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women.”
She turned her gaze right and left, trying to understand where this voice was coming from. Terrified, she returned to her house, set down the jar, took the purple cloth, sat on her chair, and spun.
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before her and said: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for the grace of God—the Lord of all—has been found in abundance for you; therefore you will conceive by his word.”
When she heard this, she wondered: “Shall I conceive from the Lord, the living God, and give birth as every woman gives birth?”
And the angel of the Lord replied: “Not in that way, Mary, for the power of the Lord will cover you. Therefore the holy child will be called the Son of the Most High, and you will give him the name Jesus; he will save the people from their sins.”
And Mary answered: “Behold, the servant of the Lord before him; let it happen as you say.”
When she finished the purple and the scarlet, she brought them to the priest. He blessed her and said: “Mary, the Lord has glorified your name; you will be blessed in all the generations of the earth.”
